Our Story

Ruth’s version

"For almost 5 years, on every one of my birthday, Walter would message me with a ‘Happy Birthday Ruth’ ,without fail. I would respond to a simple ‘thank you’ and the conversation would end there, till the next birthday.

However, this all changed when Walter messaged me, seeking assistance, I advised him that he should get back to me in a month as I was writing finals. Well, he never got back to me. One random day in December, Walter posted himself loading on Nestle chocolates for he’s family back home. I then commented with a simple ‘Mutiigirewo’ and surprise, surprise, one particular Saturday afternoon he called, and asked where I was and that he had a little something for me.

I became curious on what he wanted to give me, and I agreed to meet him. We had a great conversation, which was centralized on life in general. Mind you, this was the first time I physically met Walter, during the whole hour or so, I did all the talking (he couldn’t even get a word in haha), all I remember is how he’s smile was wide and would listen attentively and he’s face was bright. From then, I kind of knew that he was enjoying our interaction, but did not think much of it, to be honest all I wanted was the something he had mentioned, and to be on my way. Well, it was a bag of chocolates.

From then on, conversations were now more frequent, and before I knew it, I realized I had found a friend in Walter. Before I knew it, we had crossed the thin line of friendship into something more.

What started as acquaintances to a friendship, resolved into a much more deeper relationship which has been a lovely journey so far."

Walter's Version

"I first met Ruth at church, it was after the service, behind the pastor’s office. She greeted my friends and I with a remarkable smile that made a lasting impression on my heart. It took me a couple of years to initiate a conversation with her, seeking assistance in accounting, lol, as I was studying an accounting module at that time. And yes, it was never the end goal, it was my little plan to get her attention and it worked, and guess what, I never received the accounting help I sought. However, she offered something far more valuable—a lifelong journey together that we are now about to celebrate, with you as a witness :-)"
